Radiation Oncology Institute - Wiener Gesundheitsverbund Klinik Hietzing and Donaustadt
Availability Model
The capacity of both Radiation Oncology Institutes at hospital Hietzing and Donaustadt werde extended by further linear accelerators. This significantly improved cancer patient care in Austria's capital. At the start of the project, a total of two linear accelerators were in operation for the treatment of oncology patients across both sites. Upon completion, six devices are now available.
Challenge
At the Hietzing site, a temporary building with two bunkers in the radiation therapy area had to be constructed. At the Donaustadt site, a five-story solid construction extension was required. All implementation was carried out while hospital operations continued uninterrupted.
Solution
Based on an availability model, construction and technical operations were awarded through a two-stage EU-wide procurement procedure. The availability model contains long-term operational services. At location Hietzing, the contract will terminate in 2033 with dismantling of the temporary building. At location Donaustadt, the contract will terminate in 2044 after 25 years of technical operations.
